Driving Engineering Change

This is where it starts.....

After working with the FinOps Foundation throughout 2021 as on-call trainers, helping lead and facilitate multiple FinOps Certified Practitioner training courses; both myself and Idaliz decided that we enjoyed the experience so much that we wanted to do this full-time. Looking back, we have trained 150+ practitioners to date, including a fantastic 30 person private training for a major financial institution.

So we are excited to announce that at FinOpsX 2022, we are publicly launching RealOps.io, an organisation focused on providing private FinOps training and support services to businesses around the world.

Why private training?
We firmly believe that the FinOps Foundation public courses provide the best way for early practitioners to get an understanding of FinOps and learn from the experiences of other organisations. However, there are times when a public training may not be the most appropriate. We realised that as organisations are looking to expand their FinOps practice and involve additional colleagues, that sometimes they want to share specific company details, vendor information, and other business sensitive information that is not appropriate to a public training. Also we know that some practitioners like to tailor the standard FinOps Foundation syllabus to include organisation specific information. We aim to support these early stage practitioners by allowing them to receive full FinOps certification and customise the training to their individual needs.

Why support services?
We realise that for most organisation FinOps is still a new way of working and is in early stage of adoption. Therefore the type of support you require may vary significantly based on your crawl, walk, stage. At RealOps.io we aim to support you with targeted advice, vendor analysis, or simply an extra pair of hands that have walked through these processes before to help give you a push, a pull, and a jumpstart in the right direct. These service engagements can be as simple as, 'I need a reservation plan', to something as complicated as 'I need a TCO analysis of my cloud'. Please feel free to contact us with any specific challenges that you have. We hope we will be able to help, and if not we may be able to point you in the right direction.

Longer term...
We aim to build a community focused organisation enhancing FinOps capabilities and contributing to the FinOps Foundation's open source knowledge repository. Over time we intend to expand the team with additional engineering and finance specialists to provide not only the option of a fully managed FinOps as a Service team, but also we know that as FinOps practices grow within organisation there is an ever increasing challenge of 'getting engineers to take action'. Part of the key to resolving this is making sure we meet the engineers where they are in the tools they are using today. This often requires integration between FinOps and multiple other engineering/governance tools. We aim to support organisations with pre-canned integrations for the most common use cases and a custom development function for anything else.

We look forward to our future journey together with you all!

-Alex
